Procedure

Silvermines Hydro is excited to let you know that we have started the permit granting procedure.

We are following EU Regulation 2022/869 to make sure our project meets top standards for sustainable energy development.

The Regulation aims to improve the EU's energy market by fast-tracking key infrastructure projects, such as Silvermines Hydro. These projects are called Projects of Common Interest (PCIs), and get special support to help meet the EU’s energy goals.

Planning approvals and licences

In Ireland, An Bord Pleanála handles PCIs as the National Competent Authority (NCA). It coordinates and monitors the permit process, ensuring timely decisions. An Bord Pleanála’s PCI Unit manages this process separately from its regular planning tasks.

The procedure includes three steps:

  • Notification

  • Pre-application procedure

  • Statutory permit granting procedure

After the permit granting procedure, the relevant authorities will make a final decision on our project. They may grant full planning permission, grant permission on the basis that we make changes, or refuse planning permission.

We welcome everyone’s input and suggestions. Your feedback is key to making sure the project is good for both the environment and the community. Let’s work together to create a greener future and a sustainable energy system for all.
